Remember when I alerted you to the potential dangers of fish oil supplements? https://brain2mind.substack.com/p/fish-oil-supplements-may-cause-stroke
Well, after that, I got a lot of questions about Omega-3 fatty acids and your brain. And you know what they say: Ask and ye shall receive. So, here’s some interesting science, hot off the presses!
In 2024, a psychiatrist and criminologist at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania analyzed a host of data. Their clinical work puts them in contact with a bunch of highly aggressive people. They evaluated whether dietary omega-3 supplementation had any behavioral effects. They reviewed twenty-eight scientific articles, which involved almost four-thousand people. They discovered that regular consumption of omega-3 fatty acids significantly reduced aggressive behavior in children (both boys and girls) and adults (both men and women).
What’s more, in 2024, a multinational group of researchers involving one of the same authors also proved that omega-3 supplementation significantly reduced schizotypal personality in children. In case you don’t know what schizotypal personality disorder is (I certainly didn’t), it involves the following cluster of traits: paranoia, social anxiety and unconventional (disturbingly so) beliefs. In its worst form, those with schizotypal personality may become psychotic. It’s not as rare as you would think, either. Some doctors estimate that schizotypal personality occurs in three percent of the population (more commonly in boys).
The scientists evaluated about three-hundred kids (eleven and twelve-year-olds) who’d been diagnosed as schizotypal. They discovered that omega-3 fatty acid supplementation, with or without behavioral therapy, significantly reduced schizotypal personality.
My take on all of it: Flush all the supplements down the toilet; just feed your kids more omega-3 rich fish (and eat some more yourself, while you’re at it). Anchovies, Mackerel, Salmon. Check out how to work it all into a brain boosting salad https://brain2mind.substack.com/p/brainy-salad
Good report...thanks as always.
Always great information and common sense - Love it, Thanks!
