MRI studies reveal working too hard for too long might result in volume loss in the prefrontal cortex (area that controls motivation and decision making), atrophy in the dorsal striatum (caudate and putamen nuclei (areas that modify movement) and hippocampus (an area involved in emotion and memory), but an increased volume of tissue in the amygdalae (the emotional hub of the brain).
