Feeling a little drowsy? Go ahead, stretch out and catch a few Zs. Two recent scientific studies prove that afternoon naps are good for your brain. In 2020, Singaporean researchers recruited forty volunteers for a word matching memory puzzle and fMRI. Half of the healthy young adults had the opportunity to take a ninety-minute nap, which paid dividends for their brain function. They had better memory performance and improved hippocampal function compared to the non-napping cohort. In 2021, a group of French scientists upped the ante. They reported that a post-lunchtime snooze improves both memory and problem-solving skills.
