Three privately held companies are vying to be crowned brain-computer interface (BCI) czar.
Synchron (funded by Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates) has implanted BCI devices in several human beings. Their Stentrode was the first BCI device that allowed a person to send a text through thought alone.
Blackrock Neurotech (funded by Peter Thiel) has tested BCI devices in collaboration with multiple research and clinical partners including the prestigious Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Neuralink (funded by Elon Musk) is a little late to the party. Better late than never though. In June 2023, the FDA cleared neuralink for human implantation of BCI devices. And to celebrate this milestone, Peter Thiel is channeling his inner Meat Loaf (two out of three ain’t bad). Thiel’s Founders Fund led a $280 Million dollar fundraising round for Neuralink at a valuation of $5 Billion.
The question remains: will Thiel go for the hat trick?

Is Peter Thiel Cornering the brain-computer interface market?

Once you research Thiel, you find a familiar story: (yet) a(nother) fascist-adjacent Techbro nutjob angling to be one of the Lords of the convergence. The scary part, of course, is just how close they all are to succeeding.
