Marcus Aurelius had a lot going on in his life. In what should have been his golden years, he was presiding over an empire at war and contending with an heir who wasn’t up to snuff. He could easily have become a bitter critic. He could’ve easily grown arrogant and thin skinned and unwilling to hear criticism. Instead, out of this crucible came the stoic masterpiece, Meditations, which had a lot of wise things to say about giving and receiving criticism.

Hi Marc, as always I found this piece useful in particular the information about critical mothers. The experiments brought another layer of truth to what I know to be right. I hope you will cover this topic again and provide more scientific information and also I hope, some case studies. Mother induced abuse has been a life long research topic for me and in particular narcissistic mothers. Please cover this topic ..when you have time. Marcus Aurelius was the template for a gang of boys in an old " Law and Order Criminal Intent". They studied his Meditations and lived according but chose the dark side of interpretation. At least they're reading right? You inspired many thoughts for the beginning of a new day thanks!
