New Research… Botox effects on the brain:

If used properly, Botox can have beneficial effects. The FDA approved Botox to treat a bunch of ailments, including severe muscle spasms and migraine headaches. But its popularity really took off once the plastic surgeons and dermatologists got hold of it. The FDA also approved Botox for cosmetic use, such as lines on the forehead and crows' feet.

In 2022, Chinese researchers reported on an association between Botox and an acute attack of brain inflammation. A forty year-old woman was injected with Botox for cosmetic purposes. A few weeks later deteriorated neurologically. MRI of her brain revealed multiple abnormalities. Her doctors diagnosed her with Acute Demyelinating Encephalopathy (ADEM).

The National Institutes for Health describe ADEM as widespread attacks of inflammation in the brain or spinal cord. In general, ADEM may be associated with inflammatory diseases such as multiple sclerosis, viral or bacterial infection or vaccination. 

The researchers recommended extra care when administering Botox in people who’ve recently suffered a viral infection or who harbor immune dysfunction (autoimmune disease such as lupus). The bottom line is that there’s no such thing as a free lunch. If any drug delivers positive effects it also has a downside; potential side effects or complications. Botox is no exception. 

And though I’ve heard it said, “beauty is pain”, it may not be worth Botox in the brain. My own feeling is that I've earned all of my wrinkles (along with each one of my gray hairs).
